National Museum of Korean Contemporary History should be a symbolic space that properly responds to the historical
context on the past and the current modern city environment. It should also suggest a strong vision toward the future
of the country. The National Museum of Korean Contemporary History we suggest is not simple and physical exhibition
of relics. It has the simple but refined form of square boxes showing the historical events and the spirit of the times.
There is the ‘Symbol Box’ that is the metaphor of National Seal in its form, which is the mental prototype of the
legitimate heritage of Korea. The ‘Box of Openness and Communication’ makes the new city space-order in Sejong-ro
Street within the urban context. The ‘Function Box’ will make the rationality and spatial efficiency of the museum; while
the ‘Green Box’ will be the environment-friendly icon of sustainability.
